<br />
<br />
A big advantage to have a virtual computer is that you could take a backup entirely without too much problem, you only need enough free space to do it and the Windows Backup.<br />
<br />
I will show you how to backup a Virtual Machine hosted on a Windows 2012 R2 server, this commands are very useful on Windows Core Edition but are too appreciated for GUI Edition.<br />
<br />
You need to take in count that is very recommendable to backup the VM over external hard disk or over a network mapping drive, I use the last one and I need to mention that when we use this option the backup is overwritten for the next one, so you only have the last backup for your VM, although you could backup your VM backup's to other media such as tape if you need to retain your backup for certain time.<br />
<br />
I have a batch file which runs every night through an Schedule Task and take a backup for every VM located on my Windows 2012 R2 Core Edition Server, the batch starts mapping the network drive:<br />
<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Net use \\<span style="color: red;">DestinationServer</span>\<span style="color: red;">ShareForVM01</span> <span style="color: red;">/user:BackupUser Password</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Where <span style="color: red;">DestinationServer </span>is an outside server with enough free space, <span style="color: red;">ShareForVM01 </span>is the shared folder for VM01 you need one share folder for every VM because if you have just one the last VM backed up will overwrite the last one and you will lost your other VM backup's. </li>
<li><span style="color: red;">/User</span> is the user with enough privileges to write files on the shared folder.</li>
<li><span style="color: red;">Password </span>is the password for the user which perfmon the backup.</li>
</ol>
<br />
<br />
You will need several's Net Use entries for every VM to backup.<br />
<br />
Then you use the command to backup you VM.<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:\\<span style="color: red;">DestinationServer</span>\<span style="color: red;">ShareForVM01</span> -hyperv:"<span style="color: red;">VM01</span>" -quiet</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Where \\<span style="color: red;">DestinationServer</span>\<span style="color: red;">ShareForVM01</span> is the shared folder for VM <span style="color: red;">VM01</span>.</li>
<li>And "<span style="color: red;">VM01</span>" is your VM name's to be backed up.</li>
</ol>
<br />
You will need one entry for each VM.<br />
<br />
The VM is backed up online only with a little delay for the end user, this applies even for Linux VM.<br />
<br />
The last step is to disconnect the Network Drives acquired on your first steps as follows:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>net use /Delete \\<span style="color: red;">DestinationServer</span>\<span style="color: red;">ShareForVM01</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
I hope this article shows you how to backup easily your VM, for me had been very useful.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl1BO_SRMLD-_wvKCe-18CgM-wc7A-0j96KfEwi6GjFR-M1A21WsqHq80sqSNRCjrYYcmE2t9IEfZ9AHLYBQ9qPq5hzPo-Zbk0KkmCo6y29BO-LnFAdMIbHZPB5GSeOCu6C6UiYrBFuL4/s1600/WindowsFirewall.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl1BO_SRMLD-_wvKCe-18CgM-wc7A-0j96KfEwi6GjFR-M1A21WsqHq80sqSNRCjrYYcmE2t9IEfZ9AHLYBQ9qPq5hzPo-Zbk0KkmCo6y29BO-LnFAdMIbHZPB5GSeOCu6C6UiYrBFuL4/s1600/WindowsFirewall.png" /></a></div>
<br />
Some times when you have a Windows Server with a lot of rules at the Firewall, it is a good idea to Backup it's configuration and some times when something goes wrong with server and you suspect that Firewall is the problem you will need to restore to it's last configuration.<br />
<br />
To Backup and Restore Windows firewall you could use the following command:<br />
<b><span style="color: red;">netsh advfirewall</span></b><br />
<br />
To <span style="color: red;">Backup </span>your firewall use as follows:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><b>netsh advfirewall <span style="color: red;">export </span>c:\Backups\Firewall-Backup-07162015.wfw</b></li>
</ul>
<br />
Where <span style="color: red;">export </span>is the instruction to Backup and "<span style="color: red;">c:\Backups\Firewall-Backup-07162015.wfw</span>" is the path and name for the backup file.<br />
<br />
To <span style="color: red;">Restore </span>the last backup you use the next:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><b>netsh advfirewall <span style="color: red;">import</span> c:\Backups\Firewall-Backup-07162015.wfw</b></li>
</ul>
<br />
Where <span style="color: red;">import </span>is the instruction to Restore the firewall configuration.<br />
<br />
As you can see, it is very easy, you could test on your computer adding some rules and backup your configuration and after that removing it and finally restoring it.<br />
<br />
Also you could schedule a task to perform this action on a daily basis through a batch file.Robert SAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15843329692674333949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1763725066012388902.post-24535581608424063462015-07-01T15:39:00.001-06:002015-07-01T15:41:55.678-06:00Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Disaster RecoveryThis article describes necessary steps to perform a Disaster Recovery for Microsoft SQL Server 2008. This document assume you already has a backup for all your databases (user and system) and also you have a new server installation with the same settings your failed server had (SQL installed on the same path, with same server collation, same version and same service packs).<br />
<br />
Start your new SQL Server and go to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (MSSMS) and select the MSDB perform a right click and select TASK/RESTORE/DATABASE from menu, then select the location where your backup is stored, and click OK to restore it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXYVC80oTlEqfdsDr7Q4PiSrH0nEORXHa2NNt2RQspwsFj1lFDihI1UoR77wLsY699llqfzSe9DAzmsXdu7E3H1TH7khoONvujMJKcRTfXMGChp7CRL_NqEw0LdpbdwMSaHfnqvJ-Bh-0/s1600/SQLDR01.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXYVC80oTlEqfdsDr7Q4PiSrH0nEORXHa2NNt2RQspwsFj1lFDihI1UoR77wLsY699llqfzSe9DAzmsXdu7E3H1TH7khoONvujMJKcRTfXMGChp7CRL_NqEw0LdpbdwMSaHfnqvJ-Bh-0/s1600/SQLDR01.png" /></a></div>
<br />
The second database to restore is MODEL. We perform the same steps as last one but with a little difference, we need to select the option "Overwrite the existing database (WITH REPLACE)":<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixaM6LtLy8e9gi3akDlomtKIyrEAYvAxKwShca15Zrssx5X-M3CNyDZzLzt3M6mZWHj_mYjveFOCtzsnJQEFXFBW210VV0No6Kx4qbZb4vEOcTwRy2WbyCbVnop6-FcZvw6-Nih4xLgJc/s1600/SQLDR02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixaM6LtLy8e9gi3akDlomtKIyrEAYvAxKwShca15Zrssx5X-M3CNyDZzLzt3M6mZWHj_mYjveFOCtzsnJQEFXFBW210VV0No6Kx4qbZb4vEOcTwRy2WbyCbVnop6-FcZvw6-Nih4xLgJc/s1600/SQLDR02.png" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally the last database to restore is MASTER. To restore this database we need to configure it to single user, to do it, go to, "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 / Configuration Tools / Sql Server Configuration Manager"<span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 14.6666669845581px; line-height: 16.8666667938232px;"> then select "SQL Server Services / SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)"</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhod6zzuTVl58VqOZcYLhwbZfdMiCT6k8BOF7cTVxZ9ufEQiZtbBwyDfsh1jTUZPns6mOs1Ck-4Wm8wyeqMXxTSZbFMHBUj8BkXMPRBRUaqOoaIHTFok3bfS1L8na473h-WIVt2Rt-uFEc/s1600/SQLDR03.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhod6zzuTVl58VqOZcYLhwbZfdMiCT6k8BOF7cTVxZ9ufEQiZtbBwyDfsh1jTUZPns6mOs1Ck-4Wm8wyeqMXxTSZbFMHBUj8BkXMPRBRUaqOoaIHTFok3bfS1L8na473h-WIVt2Rt-uFEc/s1600/SQLDR03.png" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 14.6666669845581px; line-height: 16.8666667938232px;"><br /></span></span>
After that open the next window and click on "Advanced" and select "Startup Parameters" and on the right side of the window at the start of the values we add "-m" (without quotes) and the click "OK"<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzhT9WXG34vYcHAAg5nexAF3B5a5ykkAD8NbqoTf_joHMmpC_RxEYjoq6Lk7IR4vw9ZcpG16pj5r7804bEhQBtCOdrysLa9TQyJiFK8VXVOq_AirtG6Cr65MItk970sHO5agy1djC0KWY/s1600/sqldr05.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzhT9WXG34vYcHAAg5nexAF3B5a5ykkAD8NbqoTf_joHMmpC_RxEYjoq6Lk7IR4vw9ZcpG16pj5r7804bEhQBtCOdrysLa9TQyJiFK8VXVOq_AirtG6Cr65MItk970sHO5agy1djC0KWY/s1600/sqldr05.png" /></a></div>
<br />
Then stop all SQL Services and start only "SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)"<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikVZzEU4-_VQNkUwxtU4xN0fnlE8laWdTkacfHXvOqLjYihLMaxpaMODG-6fu-9LQ9pk4W7vFa4n1nmzGMg1h2yWtV8K8i0B6fxnWuZoe0kDTCKut1PvQn8yUREoJLlB4iDscuK4FyFhU/s1600/SQLDR04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikVZzEU4-_VQNkUwxtU4xN0fnlE8laWdTkacfHXvOqLjYihLMaxpaMODG-6fu-9LQ9pk4W7vFa4n1nmzGMg1h2yWtV8K8i0B6fxnWuZoe0kDTCKut1PvQn8yUREoJLlB4iDscuK4FyFhU/s1600/SQLDR04.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Now go to MSSMS and select MASTER database and restore it, with the setting "Overwrite the existing database " and click "OK".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMTeExLdoQoeM7-mOH7P6bmP008wdECc7u9r0OxajYQcK6Gvr59cwu8zVNoi6KNBGFi-0Py2OmlMm1OPkayWTzeMwqYPvUIlJxi99MiXnsYFRxXScoSB-xV8zXmEaCQ9lxelIWRmMKWZk/s1600/sqldr06.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMTeExLdoQoeM7-mOH7P6bmP008wdECc7u9r0OxajYQcK6Gvr59cwu8zVNoi6KNBGFi-0Py2OmlMm1OPkayWTzeMwqYPvUIlJxi99MiXnsYFRxXScoSB-xV8zXmEaCQ9lxelIWRmMKWZk/s1600/sqldr06.png" /></a></div>
<br />
Once restored MASTER database we need to return the original settings removing the "-m" value, and we stop and start all SQL services.<br />
<br />
After that you will see listed(but not working) all your databases with all your server's configuration, but you still need to restore all your User databases to finish your Disaster Recovery.<br />
<br />

<br />
Then locate Service which you want to start in example Microsoft FTP and take note for Display Name value in this case Microsoft FTP Service<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_8D6o1NnvzF8IfTPi2_-RO1YgHt_mt3LxM0LKZNZvDXl5FxHnD4U1q1qLmVgfQSVqfLmbN2sCu66mE0V-kVKbO1HA1dhK2etaxM4TIPip55TGxCc4LnGsk4FWhTgawAg0KY3xAv5vO3o/s1600/START-STOP-FTP-01.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_8D6o1NnvzF8IfTPi2_-RO1YgHt_mt3LxM0LKZNZvDXl5FxHnD4U1q1qLmVgfQSVqfLmbN2sCu66mE0V-kVKbO1HA1dhK2etaxM4TIPip55TGxCc4LnGsk4FWhTgawAg0KY3xAv5vO3o/s320/START-STOP-FTP-01.png" width="286" /></a></div>
<br />
Now to start the service you will need to go to command prompt (CMD) and type exactly as follows:<br />
<b><span style="color: red;">Net Start "Microsoft FTP Service"</span></b><br />
<br />
You could use this instruction inside of Batch File and then you could use an Schedule Task in order to monitoring your service and start it automatically when it goes down, also you could execute a VBScript inside your Batch file to inform you about the action performed, on previous publication I show how to send <a href="http://e-blog-it.blogspot.mx/2015/05/how-to-send-email-with-vbscript.html" target="_blank">emails</a> with VBScriptRobert SAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15843329692674333949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1763725066012388902.post-34477225160902509842015-06-11T11:47:00.001-06:002015-06-11T11:51:43.488-06:00How to monitor Free Hard Disk Space with VBScript<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigLf_waYq2Ba_tEM04IcoEZYvjYfKskTcTURHGduwzIkkAVb1PF81d8IZP9AzxWWvKPq7E1CtLLpUDLdrtAxqp860PI2ds-7Jw4ZmoEQ8JWE_dELZAkPuPnS0t6l4riKMnHyvIjQ-qbfk/s1600/HardDiskFreeSpace.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigLf_waYq2Ba_tEM04IcoEZYvjYfKskTcTURHGduwzIkkAVb1PF81d8IZP9AzxWWvKPq7E1CtLLpUDLdrtAxqp860PI2ds-7Jw4ZmoEQ8JWE_dELZAkPuPnS0t6l4riKMnHyvIjQ-qbfk/s320/HardDiskFreeSpace.png" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is a useful script which helps to monitoring hard disk frees pace on Windows Servers, you can use it in order to know if one of your servers is running out of space, you could configure it with a<br />
Schedule Task.<br />
<br />
This script works and sends an email messages when free disk space is below of 10% from total hard disk space, you could customize it as your convenience.<br />
<br />
Dim objFSO, space1, space1gb, message<br />
Set objFSO = CreateObject ("Scripting.FileSystemObject")<br />
<br />
For each objdrive in objFSO.Drives<br />

<br />
In order to take control over your Linux computers it's very recommendable to install and configure the VNC Server, the following article shows the step-by-step.<br />
<br />
Review if you already have installed VNC with the following command:<br />
<span style="background: white; font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">rpm
-q tigervnc-server</span><br />
<br />
To install execute:<br />
<span style="background: white; font-family: 'DejaVu Sans'; font-size: 10.2pt; font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">yum install</span><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;"> </span><span style="background: white; font-family: 'DejaVu Sans'; font-size: 10.2pt; font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">tigervnc-server</span><br />
<span style="background: white; font-family: 'DejaVu Sans'; font-size: 10.2pt; font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">yum groupinstall Desktop</span><br />
<span style="background: white; font-family: 'DejaVu Sans'; font-size: 10.2pt; font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"><br /></span>
Create users on Linux which will access the computer, if you already have the users omit this step:<br />
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;"> su - </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">useradd larry</span></div>
<br />
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">passwd larry</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
Where <b>su -</b> indicates to change your current user to use the root user, after that you need to type the password<b>, </b>and<b> useradd </b>will add the user with the name you prefers for example: <b>larry, </b>then <b>passwd</b> is the password for the user.</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
Edit file named VNCSERVERS to indicate the name of the user which will access and the screen resolution to use:</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Gedit /etc/sysconfig/vncservers</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
You could use the following lines as example to provide access to larry, mich and tom with different resolution:</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">VNCSERVERS="1:larry 2:mich 3:tom"</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">VNCSERVERARGS[1]="-geometry 640x480"</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">VNCSERVERARGS[2]="-geometry 640x480"</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">VNCSERVERARGS[3]="-geometry 800x600"</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
Now is time to create the user's VNC password:</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">su - larry </span>(this command changes to use the user named larry)</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Vncpasswd </span>(with this command you will introduce the password )</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">cd .vnc </span>(change to vnc directory )</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Ls </span>(list files and observe that exists the file named: passwd)</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
Now start, stop and configure to automatically initialize the service:</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">/sbin/service
vncserver start</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;"> /sbin/service
vncserver stop</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;"> /sbin/chkconfig
vncserver on</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
Then edit IPtables in order to permit the connection to VNC:</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Gedit /etc/sysconfig/iptables</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
Add the following line to the file which will permit connection from ports range 5901:5903 and 6001:6003:</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="background: #FFFAE9; font-weight: bold;">-A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp -m multiport --dports
5901:5903,6001:6003 -j ACCEPT</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
Finally restart IPtables service:</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">/sbin/service iptables restart</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
Now connect for example with VNC Viewer:</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVxE0Y2s0paZ8OdQBNOGgti54FNDy8CkUxZiBx6fcqkHoqSXzQk3WExvk3HFVhaQRiRodWrFqBZ7szVPLGquxJXH6S8JN7qoSa_zVPviDKR2AqaCCHyszuj_1IlXIPITRRFXqSvybi6rE/s1600/LinuxVNCViwer01.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVxE0Y2s0paZ8OdQBNOGgti54FNDy8CkUxZiBx6fcqkHoqSXzQk3WExvk3HFVhaQRiRodWrFqBZ7szVPLGquxJXH6S8JN7qoSa_zVPviDKR2AqaCCHyszuj_1IlXIPITRRFXqSvybi6rE/s320/LinuxVNCViwer01.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
On the last screen at the VNC Server field you type the IPaddress for your Linux computer (192.168.0.26) the you type the number corresponded to user configured on your VNCSERVERS file which also corresponds to the port used on the IPTables file in this case 5902. Finally click connect, and if you receive the following message click on Continue:</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnw6_PtmI_cacSap3Z0ZBfVwk2s3bbELDfJXsM4nKzwscbSzznVfxc_lDq770qtFVfBWlXuKTfSs4HVJ4Ohdj1nUSa8F-J3KyvRbIrMw4lgCEYXl4oGdfuoyUgRgvprkAcIKXXflpTx1Q/s1600/LinuxVNCViwer02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnw6_PtmI_cacSap3Z0ZBfVwk2s3bbELDfJXsM4nKzwscbSzznVfxc_lDq770qtFVfBWlXuKTfSs4HVJ4Ohdj1nUSa8F-J3KyvRbIrMw4lgCEYXl4oGdfuoyUgRgvprkAcIKXXflpTx1Q/s320/LinuxVNCViwer02.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
You will be asked for the password for user defined on connection number 2 on the VNCSERVERS file:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid31lW02QiPaibWfyPVsDAq8tJkQdpZ4fHLc-ryrS51zx8xNbfaBQtrLF0GTlQUrvKED6WodOaKJtRW44xVPn0GHeUWyPrLe-CHgKM-GRjRFU_EC2a20tL6gbP36vG57d0BDudRBiIT7c/s1600/Email01.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid31lW02QiPaibWfyPVsDAq8tJkQdpZ4fHLc-ryrS51zx8xNbfaBQtrLF0GTlQUrvKED6WodOaKJtRW44xVPn0GHeUWyPrLe-CHgKM-GRjRFU_EC2a20tL6gbP36vG57d0BDudRBiIT7c/s1600/Email01.png" /></a></div>
<br />
As SysAdmins we need to monitor constantly our servers and it's services and the minimum action required to do it's to receive an email informing about issues. I will share with you a VBScript which can be used to perform this task (inform), you will only need an SMTP Server.<br />
<br />
Most times to perform this kind of tasks you will need to buy a third party component, with this VBScript you can save some money. This VBScript works on Windows and you can use it as a complement for a BATCH file which monitors some Server or some Windows service.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: red;">Set objMessage = CreateObject("CDO.Message") </span><br />
'==The following line shows the Subject<br />
<span style="color: red;">objMessage.Subject = "Monitoring" </span><br />
'==The next line shows FROM, here most times in order to SMTP permits relay, you will need to use the same domain as the TO, even when the user does not exists (i.e. monitor)<br />
<span style="color: red;">objMessage.From = "monitor@company.com" </span><br />
'==On the next line you will configure the target email.<br />
<span style="color: red;">objMessage.To = "myuser@company.com" </span><br />
'==Now on the next line you can inform more in deep about the issue.<br />
<span style="color: red;">objMessage.TextBody = "Monitoring Message"</span><br />
<br />
'==This section provides the configuration information for the remote SMTP server.<br />
'==Normally you will only change the server name or IP.<br />
<span style="color: red;">objMessage.Configuration.Fields.Item _</span><br />
<span style="color: red;">("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusing") = 2 </span><br />
<br />
'Name or IP of Remote SMTP Server<br />
objMessage.Configuration.Fields.Item _<br />
<span style="color: red;">("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserver") = "smtp.mycompany.com"</span><br />
<br />
'Server port (typically 25)<br />
<span style="color: red;">objMessage.Configuration.Fields.Item _</span><br />
<span style="color: red;">("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserverport") = 587 </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: red;">objMessage.Configuration.Fields.Update</span><br />
<br />
'==End remote SMTP server configuration section==<br />
<br />
<span style="color: red;">objMessage.Send</span><br />

<br />
If you manage a Microsoft Web Server (IIS-Internet Information Server), you must considered to backup it regularly, in this article I will show you how to backup it in an easy way.<br />
<br />
You could create a BAT file with the following instructions on it:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd add backup <span style="color: red;">BACKUPNAME. </span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0 0 0 40px; padding: 0px;">
The last instruction backup the general configuration for IIS, where BACKUPNAME is the name for the backup, if you will need to store backups on a daily basis, you could use the following:</blockquote>
<ul><ul>
<li> Servername-Back20%date:~8,4%%date:~3,2%%date:~0,2%</li>
<ul>
<li>With last command you could obtain a backup with the current date and you could use the server's name in order to identify it.</li>
</ul>
</ul>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<ul>
<li>The next instruction will backup the Application Pools:</li>
<ul>
<li>C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd list apppool /config /xml > apppoolsServername-Back20%date:~8,4%%date:~3,2%%date:~0,2%.xml</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>And finally to get the complete list of sites, use the following instruction:</li>
<ul>
<li>C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd list site /config /xml > SitesServername-Back20%date:~8,4%%date:~3,2%%dat<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
e:~0,2%.xml</li>
</ul>
</ul>

This script works fine for Windows 2008 or greater.</div>

This script must run in the Host Hyper-V Server.<br />
<br />
Here is the code on the BAT File:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh19pgGQeoRoM0ewxlqnmeoOEKnNL3cnhYjPs-ipyoIFmfw3JaKM4XG7DNnuT8IZMJginmPpNvUX9wZTbn3B3Dg_1jVqDEpzi0quK8ItPio3STbbS5U6CkKnctiZlyiMxNJNtNZb3yZ53c/s1600/MonitorVMwPWS1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="154" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh19pgGQeoRoM0ewxlqnmeoOEKnNL3cnhYjPs-ipyoIFmfw3JaKM4XG7DNnuT8IZMJginmPpNvUX9wZTbn3B3Dg_1jVqDEpzi0quK8ItPio3STbbS5U6CkKnctiZlyiMxNJNtNZb3yZ53c/s640/MonitorVMwPWS1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
This Script mix the Batch file property FINDSTR and PowerShell property GET-VM, the first searches on the second the Word in this case "Running" after that an IF sentence determines what to do, once the FINDSTR does not find the "Running" word it executes the ELSE, in this case it could be to send an email through VBscript or could be to Start again the VM or whatever other action you need.<br />
<br />
You only need to substitute VMname for your VM Guest.<br />
<br />
You could add several entries with different VM's in order to monitor more servers.<br />
<br />
This is script is very helpful because in some situations the VM stops i.e. the Host is running out of disk space, if that situation is present you could be alerted.Robert SAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15843329692674333949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1763725066012388902.post-85592132141204032212015-05-05T16:45:00.000-06:002015-06-11T11:05:37.603-06:00How to connect to Microsoft Terminal Server with Linux diskless PC<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
I needed to set up
an environment where my old PC's work with my Microsoft Terminal Services
server without use any Windows client (like XP, 7 or 8), must PC's were
diskless , this give me few options, so I decide to install PXE Server and use
in conjunction with my current Windows 2008 DHCP Server.</div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
To mount the
environment I used one old PC with disk where I installed CentOS 6.5 to serve
as a PXE Server, download Thinstation 2.2, and configure my current Microsoft
DHCP server with the Bootp options, also configure my Terminal Services Server
in order to accept Remote Desktop connections from Thinstation.</div>

<br />
Recently I got the following error at the Event Viewer Application Log:<br />
Could not find file at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)<br />
<br />
This error was occasioned by an in house application.<br />
<br />
The error refers to a file which is not on the desired path by Windows.<br />
<br />
In order to solve this error, I used the "Process Monitor" by Sysinternals.com, I configured it to listen only for my application. After review the Log I found that problem was occasioned by the application's configuration file which was not found on<br />
<br />
C:\Windows\SysWOW64.<br />
<br />
My server is Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise x64.<br />
<br />
My application is 32bits, and I think that by this reason the Windows look for the file on SysWOW64 folder.<br />
<br />
After I copied the file on that path the error disappear.<br />

The following VBScript helps on monitor App Pools State and if it is Stopped it automatically starts, also it sends an email informing you about that situation, email only needs a valid SMTP server in order to deliver the email. Set oWebAdmin = GetObject("winmgmts:root\WebAdministration")<br />

I have the DVD media and the server only have USB ports.<br />
I have a 64 GB USB pen drive, and my laptop with DVD player.<br />
In order to create a boot drive with my USB pen drive, I did the following (If you have valuable information on your USB pen drive please backup before to continue):<br />
<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Insert your USB pen drive on your computer and then do a right click and select format and use the default setting that Windows shows (I have Windows 7).</li>
<li>Open a DOS command prompt window and type:</li>

<br />
My database is in Full Mode and my server is a Microsoft Windows Server Standard 2008 with Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise 2008.<br />
<br />
In order to know the free disk space database had I used SSMS selecting Task/Shrink/Files and taking note about "Available free space:".<br />
<br />
Then I select database properties and on "Files" option I go to the file which I want to reduce size, in this case the main database file (extension mdf) and over the "Initial Size (MB)" column I put the New size I want to the file has(Initial Size (MB) - Available free Space). I did this on steps, I decreased size around 3GB on each step, each one delays around four minutes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeBMJhHckhjx-qaI4HYE2KzBvx8o7d-4qBQDFMqD2VUN7VFrSHNe0MkTRvzWKqsy0iPDklxh0ufDAZ12Qh3AdTD2yjJEMz3t-JWgHTycQJTBZilxTZFLsVQFxWGhr5HfyMRxmzZRm_Qnw/s1600/ShrinkDB.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeBMJhHckhjx-qaI4HYE2KzBvx8o7d-4qBQDFMqD2VUN7VFrSHNe0MkTRvzWKqsy0iPDklxh0ufDAZ12Qh3AdTD2yjJEMz3t-JWgHTycQJTBZilxTZFLsVQFxWGhr5HfyMRxmzZRm_Qnw/s1600/ShrinkDB.png" height="289" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Also I did this with TempDB database and works fine.<br />
<br />
My database is working fine and I recovered the lost space.<br />
<br />
I hope It could help you.Robert SAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15843329692674333949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1763725066012388902.post-58848121348191153812012-12-20T17:46:00.003-06:002015-04-27T14:51:59.359-06:00How to transfer files via SFTP scriptI tried to upload and download files to-from to SFTP via script without success, I was intended with FileZilla although it is an excellent GUI tool I could not create a script. Recently I found a very good tool called WINSCP this is a Client for FTP and SFTP. It could used as GUI Client or as command tool with scripts. In my case I use it as a SFTP Client in order to create an script to upload files automatically all days.
<br />
If you need the tool go to the following link:
http://winscp.net/eng/index.php
<br />
This is an example on how to upload a file, on the last link you can find more examples:
<br />
# Automatically abort script on errors
option batch abort<br />
# Disable overwrite confirmations that conflict with the previous
option<br />
confirm off<br />
# Connect using a password<br />
open sftp://user@example.com -hostkey="ssh-rsa 1024 xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx"<br />
option transfer binary<br />
put C:\temp\File01.exe<br />
# Disconnect<br />
close<br />
# Exit WinSCP<br />
exit<br />
<br />
Save the last is script as UPloadFile.txt
<br />
Then we need to create a Batch file to call the last script and to invoke the WinSCP client, type the following on notepad or other text editor and save as Upload.bat<br />
"C:\Program Files (x86)\WinSCP\winscp.exe" /console /script=c:\UPloadFile.txt
<br />
Finally create a Schedule Task on Windows and on that invoke the Upload.bat file
<br />
It is important to note that the line with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx must be replaced with the Host's key. If you don't now how to obtain this key, you can use the WinSCP GUI and connect to the SFTP server and take note from the first message that server returns, it is a screen like this:
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNHhzIQ2XL1gw0Itv_K9qh6c719URs4bPU-xOEXFs-0WU0K88e_FwizuBHNspoBrOXRUQycZGq2-UFn8EiNsI_fKd_r9cLvIbNACnJ3N2-pNmX5_v5cbhx213-hrfF1ReceSnJqiSlxTc/s1600/Server+RSA+FingerPrint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNHhzIQ2XL1gw0Itv_K9qh6c719URs4bPU-xOEXFs-0WU0K88e_FwizuBHNspoBrOXRUQycZGq2-UFn8EiNsI_fKd_r9cLvIbNACnJ3N2-pNmX5_v5cbhx213-hrfF1ReceSnJqiSlxTc/s320/Server+RSA+FingerPrint.jpg" height="89" width="320" /></a></div>
I hope this example helps other people.

The SQL Server instance specified in SSIS service configuration is not present or is not available. This might occur when there is no default instance of SQL Server on the computer. For more information, see the topic "Configuring the Integration Services Service" in Server 2008 Books Online.<br />
<br />
Login timeout expired<br />
A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible. Check if instance name is correct and if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. For more information see SQL Server Books Online.<br />
Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. (MsDtsSrvr)<br />
<br />
To configure the SSIS Service is necessary to open the following file:<br />
\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn\MsDtsSrvr.ini.XML<br />
<br />
I tried several configurations but none works for me, I performed a lot of searchs on Internet but I could not find a solution.<br />
<br />
To solve the issue I open the SQL Error Log file and locate the following entry:<br />
Server local connection provider is ready to accept connection on <br />
[ \\.\pipe\SQLLocal\MSSQLSERVER ].<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp_RsBrByYHhFf1swBQltUJwjgL8uGzB60L48NYZ8TgStI2t1BnJiseIrgHs9p-U_M1L5nRsjZDdWpwiDFrRYKiAQuXBBNge0AH1z40v9F8AFEWVfXa6j1MEAJkxCp6spLDTOvt5C1k84/s1600/SQLPipe.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp_RsBrByYHhFf1swBQltUJwjgL8uGzB60L48NYZ8TgStI2t1BnJiseIrgHs9p-U_M1L5nRsjZDdWpwiDFrRYKiAQuXBBNge0AH1z40v9F8AFEWVfXa6j1MEAJkxCp6spLDTOvt5C1k84/s1600/SQLPipe.png" height="144" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After that I open the SSIS Service configuration file on both cluster nodes and configure the following line in the ServerName Node:<br />
\\.\pipe\SQLLocal\MSSQLSERVER<br />
<br />
And finally I restarted the SSSIS service and open a connection to the SSIS service and expand the MSDB database and finally I could see all the SSIS packages located on it.<br />
<br />
This solution is incredible but is real, I hope it helps more people. I don't know why the configuration file does not work with other parameters like Server Name or TCP/IP Address.Robert SAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15843329692674333949noreply@blogger.com4
